Introduction of Copeptin at CHL

Canterbury Health Laboratories wishes to advise that the B.R.A.H.M.S Copeptin assay is now available within our Endocrine and Steroid Laboratory, with testing to be performed fortnightly on a Wednesday.

Background
Copeptin and arginine vasopressin (AVP) are derived from the same precursor peptide. As Copeptin is released in the same quantity as AVP, it can be used as a surrogate for AVP/ADH in the investigation of water balance disorders. Copeptin has greater stability at room temperature and a longer half-life in plasma than AVP so is less prone to preanalytical
errors, therefore CHL will be phasing in Copeptin to replace our AVP/ADH assay. Until the end of May 2021, AVP will only be performed upon specific request, noting that an EDTA (purple top) specimen will also be required if AVP is to be assayed.

Sample collection
Samples collected in the morning after an 8 hour fast (without water restriction) are recommended unless otherwise stated by clinician.
Serum aliquoted from a red top or SST gel (minimum 500 uL) is the required sample type – stable at room temperature for 7 days.

The price for Copeptin analysis is $105.85 + GST
